US-based company CytoSport, Inc. recently announced the launch of their new Evolve ready-to-drink beverage. Evolve is a naturally flavoured protein shake designed for women who lead active lifestyles and seek healthy beverage options. The product contains 12 grams of protein, 20 different vitamins and minerals and is said to be an excellent source of fiber.
The Evolve formulation uses an innovative sweetener blend of stevia, cane sugar and monk fruit, and contains just 110 calories per 8.25 oz serving size. The natural high intensity sweetener stevia is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to artificial high intensity sweeteners in new food and beverage launches. The use of this particular sweetener combination in the Evolve protein shake, allows for a lower calorie content whilst also making natural claims.
The Evolve Protein Shake also contains the functional ingredient Tonalin® (Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). CLA is a polyunsaturated, conjugated fatty acid derived naturally from sunflower oil. CLA is said to help reduce body fat, maintain lean muscle mass and improve body composition. Whilst this functional ingredient is being seen more and more in new product launches, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have not yet approved any such claims relating its use.
CytoSport, Inc. is a leading manufacture of nutritional products designed for athletes and active consumers. They produce a wide range of protein-enhanced products, such as powders, shakes and bars. With the combination of low-calorie, high fibre, high protein and natural claims, the latest addition to their product portfolio, Evolve, is likely to be very appealing to active women seeking healthy options.
