New Mass Effect Game in Development by BioWare’s Montreal Studios

by

The Mass Effect franchise has become one of the largest and most successful this generation due in large part to its cinematic storytelling, engaging player-choice driven plot and intense gameplay mechanics. While a lot of gamers were disappointed with the conclusion to Commander Shepard’s epic trilogy, it’s hard to deny the impact that the franchise has had on the gaming industry as a whole.

With Shepard’s story officially in the books and what are sure to be the final pieces of DLC in the works, where does the series go from here? Well, according to BioWare, it goes to Montreal. Originally developed at their Edmonton Studios, they have decided to move it to the relatively newly formed location. Don’t worry too much, however, as it is made up of lots of veterans and developers that have worked on the franchise in the past.

While concrete details are extremely scarce at the moment, it is already being developed and will run on the Frostbite engine (Battlefield 3, Dragon Age 3,) Casey Hudson from Edmonton will remain the Executive Producer and you can expect, “the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling,” says Yanick Roy, Montreal Studios Director, on the BioWare official blog.

As a sign of good will, Casey Hudson even publicly asked his Twitter followers what they wanted to see in the next game. With that being said, what are your ideas? Do you want to travel through the galaxy again with characters from the previous games, take a step into the future and see where the races of the universe stand then, or maybe go back in time and see the humans rise to galactic recognition from the start?
